Author, Meditation Teacher, and Workshop / Retreat Leader
Sally Kempton has been practicing and teaching meditation and spiritual philosophy for 45 years. A long-time disciple of spiritual master Swami Muktananda, she served as a swami, or monk in a Vedic tradition for 20 years.
She is the author of two books, the best-selling Meditation for the Love of It and Awakening Shakti: The Transformative Power of the Goddesses of Yoga, both published by Sounds True. Her most recent audio publication, “Doorways to the Infinite: The Art and Science of Tantric Meditation” explores the powerful teachings of the tantric meditation text, Vijnana Bhairava.
Sally’s work integrates the teachings of non-dual Indian philosophy, particularly Kashmir Shaivism, with contemporary psychology and social thinking. She is known both for her ability to transmit meditative states to her students and for her capacity to help students apply spiritual principles to daily life situations.
Sally teaches monthly teleconference classes in meditation and yogic philosophy and psychology, drawing on the wisdom of the eastern yogic traditions, Kashmir Shaivism and Vedanta, on Integral theory and neuroscience, as well as her own 40 years of practice and experience. A member of the faculty at Kripalu and at Esalen, she regularly leads retreats and workshops around the country and appears at conferences. She writes a regular column, “Wisdom,” for Yoga Journal about how to apply yogic principles to daily life, and a column for Patheos.
